After three and a half years pursuing his own quest, Patrick Strain delivers a fantastical tale that allows his readers to experience their own journey. "I wanted this to be fast paced and exciting. It has a purpose unlike you will find anywhere else," he says. Since the beginning of time knowledge is one thing all men have craved. As we study the ancient myths we find that one thing they all share is an account of the fall of man in his pursuit to become greater than he was: his pursuit for greater knowledge and understanding.

Throughout the ages man has always desired to discover the secret to everlasting youth. By one’s own power: everlasting life.

There are secrets to be discovered and secrets that have been discovered by a select few that makes man capable of far greater things than most men could ever know. Yet there are some things, the knowledge of which is not man’s to possess. There are some things, the knowledge of which man cannot possess. And there are some things, the knowledge of which destroys a man.

In the city among the rolling hills, the esteemed Valley of Tors, a special gift has been given to a select group of some of the greatest minds the world has ever seen. Their gift is the ability to travel in time and gain the knowledge of past and future ages by way of creating alternate realities and versions of themselves. In an upper room they gather to discuss their travels as they seek to perfect the mind and live in youthfulness. But when fellow members are killed in their travels they must question what becomes of the departed. As things start to go terribly wrong they must question why they have been given such a gift, if the gift is indeed real. They must question what “time” is and the nature and character of man.

They will discover their answers as they journey through time. They will discover as they travel to the Old Island and pass beyond the Tears of the Damned. They will travel over the distant fields; beyond the high mountains to the land of Kleros where they shall confront the secrets of time and discover the mysteries of truth.

Patrick Strain is also the author of the popular gangster comedy "Girl Scouts... And How to Avoid Them" as well as the more serious novel "The Ninth Hour: a chicago story."

His mission statement is simple: "To pursue the truth and embrace it when found even if it opposes what has long been held as true."

RATHDRUM, Idaho – Girl Scouts…And How to Avoid Them by Patrick Strain is a tale of how two men, with the help of a Girl Scout, learn to stand for what is right .

Inspired by his own experiences, Strain says, “I often found it nearly impossible to turn down Girl Scouts selling cookies regardless of whether or not I wanted cookies or had just purchased cookies at another location. I found it funny that I would look for ways to avoid the Girl Scouts and their cookies rather than just say no thanks.”

In Girl Scouts…And How to Avoid Them, Joe and Vince have soft spots in their hearts for little girls, especially cookie-selling Girl Scouts. They just can’t say no to buying cookies. In an effort to overcome their weak spot, they come up with a plan for avoiding Girl Scouts and their wares, but just as they feel they are making headway, Joe’s five-year-old niece arrives on the scene to spend her summer with them…and she happens to be a member of the Girl Scouts. However, as it turns out, she isn’t their only problem. Because Joe and Vince design security systems for a living, they become the target of some local gypsy gangsters, who attempt to coerce the two into doing some shady work for them. When Joe’s niece discovers the dilemma, she tries to help her uncle by giving him a lesson on ethics and by doing everything in her power to avert the gypsies’ plans. Along the way, she plays matchmaker for the guys, and with the help of a fellow Scout, ultimately brings everyone together in a comedy that aims to give a subtle lesson on doing the right thing in spite of the consequences.

Writing to promote the adoption of a set of principles by which to live one’s life, Strain recognizes the value of organizations such as the Girl Scouts. “It could be said that the title is sort of a reverse-psychology in that I believe my book will actually help to raise interest in the various Girl Scout groups,” he says.

1920s Chicago was the scene of intense gang warfare for control over the metropolis of the Midwest. In the battles that were waged, Vincent operated in secrecy, remaining unknown, and waiting patiently for the day when he should seize the reins of power. His slumbering opposition is investigator John Capell, a close friend to one of the highest ranking henchmen under his own employ.

When the wife of a member of Vincent’s gang experiences mysterious complications in the latter stages of her pregnancy, the henchman is consumed by grief, hatred, and an insatiable thirst for vengeance. John Capell is thrown into a labyrinth of murderous horrors, deceit, and violence as vengeance wreaks its havoc on the streets of Chicago, approaching even the object of John’s own love. Throw into the streets Vincent’s lust for control of the city, a maniacal Satanist that feeds on the despair his victims, and John Capell’s dedication to justice. The question becomes: how far will a mourning gangster go to avenge his loss, and how many other people, innocent or otherwise, will be drawn into his well of grief?
